March 22, 2017 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

WILD 953 and Alberta Music are proud to launch this year's Project WILD, a professional development program designed to educate, promote, develop and launch the careers of some of Alberta's up and coming country and roots artists. Applications open TODAY and run through 12:00 noon MDT on Friday, April 21, 2017. Artists can apply for Project WILD through http://projectwildcountry.com/

Twelve Albertan artist finalists will be selected from hundreds of applications, and awarded a $5,000 Development prize and participate in an intense, week-long, career-changing music and music industry boot camp, where they will be pushed to the very limit of what they can achieve as artists. The finalists will also perform in public showcases, complete industry challenges, and look for the public vote.

Administered by Alberta Music and funded through WILD 953 - Calgary's New Country, Project WILD, is part of a seven year, $4.9 million program, designed to kick-start the international music careers of 3 emerging Alberta artists annually, and give a boost to all Top 12 finalists selected by industry jury. The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group is committed to newly emerging Canadian musical artists through CRTC Canadian Content Development programming.

This is the second year for Project WILD, last year's inaugural winners were The Dungarees (1st place), Sykamore (2nd place), and Ken Stead (3rd place). For the two years prior to last, the program was known as the PEAK Performance Project, which also ran as a program in BC for seven years. Project WILD will run in Alberta for the next four years.

Project WILD is designed to develop and launch the careers of some of Alberta up and coming artists. It also hopes to foster the Alberta music industry and create a sense of community amongst artists and music professionals. Top Prizes this year for the Alberta Project include a $100,953 top prize, $75,000 second prize, $50,000 third prize, as well as a $5,000 Development award given to each Top 12 band to help them with their career development.
