StoryMusic

StoryMusic is the brainchild of violist, writer and artistic director Liza Scriggins, who was inspired by Disney’s Fantasia, as well as Ann Rachlin’s Musical Adventures, to create stories to accompany chamber music. Based in Calgary, StoryMusic has performed for numerous children in schools, immigrant service centres, libraries, and concert halls; it has also been awarded grants by Alberta Foundation for the Arts, National Arts Centre’s Music Alive Program, and the Music Performance Trust Fund. January 2021 marked the premiere of Liza’s version of Little Red Riding Hood set to Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 11, presented online by Calgary Philharmonic as part of their Education Concerts for the 2020-2021 season. StoryMusic’s debut album Salmon & Dipper’s Wondrous Journey + Elk’s Wintry Day was released in English and French in February 2022, and a second album is due to be released in 2025. StoryMusic seeks to share the beauty, joy and wonder of chamber music and storytelling, hopefully inspiring listeners to collaborate and create artworks of their own.
